Surfing with giants: the history of Awake

Awake is an established name in the world of jetboarding. Found by Philip Werner, ex-CEO of Radinn, new company began releasing products under the new brand since 2018 - and quickly rose the the prime segment of modern motorised surfing.

Today we’d like to take a look at current offering of Awake - RAVIK One, RAVIK S 22 and RAVIK 3.

The first jetboard came with little promo, just two videos, still was a blast among the community. Even within the top tier price range (18,900 EUR plus VAT) all of 30 boards were quickly pre-ordered and propelled Awake to the esurfing patheon.

Awake RAVIK One, currently unavailable for purchase, was the first incarnation of an esurf by the mastermind of Philip Werner. Based on previously developed prototypes, RAVIK was a well-balanced jetboard, designed for riders with basic skills. With smaller and lighter carbon fibre body - 179x61x19 cm and 38 kg including the battery - RAVIK managed to accelerate to 50 km/h in 4 seconds. At top speed of 56 km/h the basic battery provided 20-40 minutes of surfing. Impressive technical parameters were complete with minimalist industrial design, that also became a trademark aspect for Awake.

The combination of compact dimensions, looks, mobility, speed and battery life quickly made the debut model very competitive and positioned Awake to become one of the biggest players on the developing market.

Next iteration of Awake’s technical vision was RAVIK S (S22). It was the amplified, enhanced version of the first model, aiming to “to push harder, jump higher, turn sharper and ride faster”. The boards’ top speed rose a bit to 57 km/h, the assembled setup also became a little heavier - 39 kilos, which also made acceleration a bit slower (50 km/h in 5 seconds). The dimensions remained pretty much the same, 175x61x27 cm.

Built upon the same hull shape and Linear Jet Thrust system, technically the S model became significantly more advanced. New redesigned controller provided unprecedented response speed - 0,02 seconds, more durable too. The impeller shape had also been optimised to increse acceleration. This came at the cost of riding time though - with standard battery S only lasts for 20 minutes.

To this day S22 remains one of the best jetboards on the market, viewed as the ultimate device by many riders and recognised by the professionals in the industry - this model received several awards in 2021, including the Red Dot. It comes as no surprise, that it remains the most expensive one too: the most basic configuration will cost you 12900 EUR).

RAVIK 3 crowns the product line. Emphasing on extreme, agile riding, the third model became the biggest and the heaviest one, weighing 40 kg with the hull dimensions of 179x62x26 cm. And it offered quite a long list of updates and innovations.

Firstly, new motor - 11 kW Brushless AMO v. 2. New V-shaped hull. New wireless hand controller.

Being perfectly balanced, the standard setup provided up to 30 minutes of surfing.
“The Awake RÄVIK 3 is the culmination of all that knowledge and experience, a board that's perfect for both racing and cruising”.

At the moment RAVIK 3 is available for purchase for 12400 EUR.

Another cool thing about Awake is their battery technology, Flex Battery. The company’s branded SR (standard) and XR (Extended) battery models fit for every Awake’s product. So, if you got yourself an XR option for a hefty price in 2018 at the very start of RAVIK One sales, today you can install it to your new Vinga e-foil (read more about it here).

To sum it up, RAVIK has gained a cult following among the jetboarders, and deservingly so.
